What is Mooncup??
The Mooncup is an eco-friendly alternative to disposable tampons or towels which lasts for about 10 years saving you loads of money and reducing waste in landfill. Mooncup is a bell shaped internal menstrual collection device held in place by the vaginal muscles and is made from medical grade silicon which is a soft, pliable, comfortable, and hypoallergenic material.
Mooncup is used in much the same way as tampons but holds more fluid than a tampon and is much more reliable and economical than tampons. Mooncup works in harmony with your body's natural vaginal environment because it does not contain any of the chemicals found in disposable cotton sanitary products such as bleaches, pesticides, deodorisers or absorbency gels. Mooncup does not dry out the sensitive vaginal or vulval environment or implant fibres onto the vaginal wall and helps make menstruation a more positive experience each month. Mooncup reduces exposure to some persistent chemicals which are thought to be hormone disruptors (oestrogen mimickers) which appear to cause menstural cramping. Thus, menstruating women experience lighter and less painful periods when using mooncup.
How do I use a Mooncup?
Mooncup is rinsed with water, folded twice and inserted.
Empty, rinse and reinsert your Mooncup every 4 to 8 hours (mooncup can be wiped with tissue if travelling and rinsed when convenient)
Regularly wash your mooncup with soap and water (drinking water if travelling)
Sterilise mooncup monthly if you wish (boil or sterilising fluid, although this is not neccessary according to Mooncup UK Dec 2006)
